Basics for making your Website work (Infographic)
November 3, 2017
Let’s start with an eye-opening stat from HubSpot
'78% of Internet users research products online'
How many people do you know, that don’t use the internet?
Essentially in this day and age your website is basically the storefront for your business, this is why it is important to keep it clean, filled with content, and updated.
Firstly, you need your product/service on your website to be seen, this can be done for free (Organically) using Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) . Applying SEO strategies to your website is critical in getting your site up the rankings on Search Engine Results Page (SERP). Basic SEO strategies include making sure your website is Mobile-friendly, Google favours these sites as Mobile has over taken Desktop, so your site needs to look good on Mobile and not a full-sized desktop site being squeezed onto a small mobile screen. You need great, up to date content on your site with strategically placed keywords. Google seems to now favour secure sites (HTTPS). Images should have relevant names when uploaded to the site and Links, internal and quality external links. These are just a small snippet of the massive world of SEO and trying to do what is in your control to get your site to the top of the rankings.
Are you guilty of having a Website for your business and not doing anything with it? Your website needs to be taken care of on a regular basis especially if you have plastered a link to it on offline advertisements. For example, if you have your website on your company car and potential consumers see the car and head to your site, they should be met with an intriguing, great looking site that ultimately is going to offer a solution to a problem they have, or may have in the future. A great site also builds trust with potential customers, heading to a site that is poorly put together, has useless to no content, and just seems unprofessional can turn away customers.
According to Smart Insights “Users who have a bad mobile user experience are 60% less likely to revisit and purchase from that brand in future (Smart Insights 2017)
From personal experience if I’m searching for a product or service and I land on a website that isn’t Mobile-Optimised (if I’m searching on Mobile), or simply looks old, irrelevant, out of date content, and just plain unprofessional, there’s a very good chance I’m going to leave the site immediately in search of something better. Your site represents your brand and when potential customers arrive at your site you want them to have a positive experience and compel them to go further whether it be to a shopping cart or even just a contact page.
