Just Do It. 3 simple words that instantly make you think Nike. Probably the most well known, globally recognized marketing campaign ever is now in its 30th year and is more relevant than ever before.
You may or may not have seen over the last few days the controversy Nike is creating around their latest advertising and their use of a former NFL Quarter Back (a story in itself) which resulted in people burning product and stock price dips. However politics and race aside their first Ad released is one of the best I have ever seen. Using Nike athletes with amazing back stories throughout, from all corners of the sporting world, such as LeBron James (Basketball) Nyjah Huston (Skateboarding) Serena Williams (Tennis) Shaquem Griffin (NFL) and Charley Jabaley (2 Chainz Manager and aspiring athlete once again a whole story in itself) this ad is the epitome of tapping into emotion and is going to resonate with millennials and Gen Z who are typically known for choosing brands that stand for something, and boy does this ad take a stand. UPDATES
After Nike started running these ads there was an outcry from people online, people burning their Nike product and even a hit to the stock price, however it is being reported that Nike sales were up 31% on this same time last year. Another article I read recently from Ad Age showed data around viewing the Ad and it showed that when Colin Kaepernick was shown 'interest among boomers dropped dramatically' http://adage.com/article/cmo-strategy/watch-nike-s-kaepernick-ad-expose-a-generational-divide/314874/
